That my dear, was the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach. I had been there many times as a young lad. It was a Historical Landmark as far as I am concerned. They tore it down to make H.B. more profitable. That is one venue I truly miss. Thanks for the memories. Shloe.
Yeah!...I only seen a couple shows there myself, but it was always a
valuable landmark....I hate what they've done there....It was like
The Whiskey of OC...that area used to be SO cool!...but now it's
....pretty profitable....most would probably say better...but...
...do you remember "The End Cafe"?...and what "strips" where?
Strips were what ya snacked on at the beach....before they called em
"Nachos"....and here's one of the places ya got em...
The end cafe....man I ditched a lot of school for that!
Bam magazine(I think) used to sponser local battle of the bands there.
Seen a couple 'o' those and I seen "The Plimsouls"....All the big acts
of the ages played there...Jimi Hendrix...Janis....All of em...I bet even the
beach boys played there...got beat up a couple times in the alley behind
....yes good times!
I want the name of the restaurant that has the strips....No way could
you duplicate those cheep ass yummy things today!...besides you'd
(I'd) be comparing them to an historical ideal.
H.B. was Awesome in the 70's, maybe-80's...people from all over the world...freakin...groovin...you do that now you'll be off to jail.
Things for your head...of course.....something wierd I remember is
"The Lynn Center"...next street north from main...free lunches and
a clearing house for dope dealers...AAAHHHHH!...Kinda like The Netherlandsshloemoe been thinking Dutch lately?
i have a call into my sister for the name of the place
it used to be in the seacliff shopping center before they made it all high rent
ahahahah
i have eaten them... they are good.
the sturdy chips
grated chedder (not melted ... just grated)
and ketchupy salsa with no chunks
then ya gotta go to the beach and throw sand in it...
ahahah
they used to sell them at JAX and Jax II at huntington street snack bars on the beach... me friend joe worked at that one and would get us them.
anyway.. SHloe i will get you the name
damn,... the 70's at HB... if you didnt have a Jack Surfboards tee from Jacks with the pier on the back and van tennis shoes ... you werent shit.
ahahhaha
Gee...thanks jr I never got a jax t-shirt....maybe that's why the ass kickins...no vans either.....wallabees everyday! long haired inlander ya know....we were always like outsiders there(warriors...come out to play-yeah)... do you know what wallbees are?
Mmmmm...stips and cheese....perfect explination of what they are....I too am a beach city girl, Newport though...and I love the memories....The big thing for us was the Russell Surfboards "back pack" it was really a square...with to straps for your arms....with the brotherhood hand ring thing....

Ok rot...I figure by now your attention has been distracted by some shiny
thing in the corner, but here's a movie of a wave from Huntington beach
pier.....just something about somebody that's never seen the ocean that
just aint right.
wallabees and earth shoes...
ahahahha
i had those when i was younger but then i put my foot down.
ahahahha
remember when the HB pier ot washed away in the 80's and i fink that is when they never put the end of the pier snack bar back and then they put rubys and started to make it commercial... then i moved away in 94
(boohoo)

I haven't been on this board for a while (thanks Gidge for reminding me how it all started), but after sensing everyone's desperation for strips & cheese, I felt the duty to respond.
The place that used to be in the Seacliff shopping center (Goldenwest & Yorktown) in HB is Jose McCoys. They closed down for several years while the center was being destroyed/redone.
But, alas, they are now back...on Warner near Bolsa Chica in the Ralphs shopping center (close to Warner & next to Starbucks/DQ.)
Their food isn't great, but the strips & cheese will bring back memories....
Good news is that you can just buy gallons (or cups) of the strip sauce & make your own....we do every time we go camping...

ahahaha
the strips are WORTH every penny...
its that funky ketchupy, tangy, peppery sauce!
Gidge and I were talking about the "avocado sauce" that they used to pour on taquitos - before anyone knew about guacamole... I saw it at Smart and Final - and you dind't have to defrost the whole 1/2 gallon of it - I totally would have gotten some...

I am happy to report that the cheese is in fact finely grated....the down side is that the strips themselves were from packaged strip/chips....but the sauce was as remembered....in fact, I shared with the entire office my lunch today.....$3.95 for a regular order...$2.65 for the snack size...
I asked for some extra sauce...and the guy said he'd have to charge me...I said...Ok....but I am comming from Newport Beach for these...he then said never mind....I also shared the fact that his place was the topic of an internet forum...which seemed to please him....
I also found out that they still make strips and cheese at Jax....
