That my dear, was the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach. I had been there many times as a young lad. It was a Historical Landmark as far as I am concerned. They tore it down to make H.B. more profitable. That is one venue I truly miss. Thanks for the memories. Shloe.

oh wow....that's sad when they do shit like that! They do it everywhere too! Many of the places I hung out at as a kid are gone.

by shloemoe
Yeah!...I only seen a couple shows there myself, but it was always a
valuable landmark....I hate what they've done there....It was like
The Whiskey of OC...that area used to be SO cool!...but now it's
....pretty profitable....most would probably say better...but...
...do you remember "The End Cafe"?...and what "strips" where?

by OneOldPunk
The End Of The Pier Cafe? Yup! And I LOVED those cheap ass strips, with chili and cheese if I had a few extra cents!

by DIsPervertNurse
and what is a nose coat?

Posted: Sat Jun 03, 2006 12:20 pm
by gidgetgoestohell
You used to put it on your nose to keep it from burning.....it was clear though...so you didn't have the white geek stripe....

Posted: Sat Jun 03, 2006 12:24 pm
by DIsPervertNurse
i have never heard of one....what did it attach to to stay in place on your nose?? And if it's clear, how does that stop it from getting burned?

Posted: Sat Jun 03, 2006 12:25 pm
by gidgetgoestohell
It was sticky...came in a brown jug....Basically....it was sunscreen.....

Posted: Sat Jun 03, 2006 12:27 pm
by DIsPervertNurse
hmmm...yea...i've never heard of it before....sounds kinda funny looking though.....i think i would rather have the zinc

Posted: Sat Jun 03, 2006 12:27 pm

Bam magazine(I think) used to sponser local battle of the bands there.
Seen a couple 'o' those and I seen "The Plimsouls"....All the big acts
of the ages played there...Jimi Hendrix...Janis....All of em...I bet even the
beach boys played there...got beat up a couple times in the alley behind
....yes good times!

I want the name of the restaurant that has the strips....No way could
you duplicate those cheep ass yummy things today!...besides you'd
(I'd) be comparing them to an historical ideal.

H.B. was Awesome in the 70's, maybe-80's...people from all over the world...freakin...groovin...you do that now you'll be off to jail.

Things for your head...of course.....something wierd I remember is
"The Lynn Center"...next street north from main...free lunches and
a clearing house for dope dealers...AAAHHHHH!...Kinda like

Things For Your Head is a couple of doors down from The Brigg. LA Taurus went in there Friday night and looked around, before seeing the Circle Jerks.

I'm a little further south - but we had a place at the end of San Clemente Pier that had strips n cheese - and the yummiest soft serve ice cream!!

Here's my beach - it's a little overcast still, but it's still in the 70's so I will deal with it!

Strips & Cheese

I haven't been on this board for a while (thanks Gidge for reminding me how it all started), but after sensing everyone's desperation for strips & cheese, I felt the duty to respond.
The place that used to be in the Seacliff shopping center (Goldenwest & Yorktown) in HB is Jose McCoys. They closed down for several years while the center was being destroyed/redone.
But, alas, they are now back...on Warner near Bolsa Chica in the Ralphs shopping center (close to Warner & next to Starbucks/DQ.)
Their food isn't great, but the strips & cheese will bring back memories....
Good news is that you can just buy gallons (or cups) of the strip sauce & make your own....we do every time we go camping...

Gidge and I were talking about the "avocado sauce" that they used to pour on taquitos - before anyone knew about guacamole... I saw it at Smart and Final - and you dind't have to defrost the whole 1/2 gallon of it - I totally would have gotten some...

I am happy to report that the cheese is in fact finely grated....the down side is that the strips themselves were from packaged strip/chips....but the sauce was as remembered....in fact, I shared with the entire office my lunch today.....$3.95 for a regular order...$2.65 for the snack size...

I asked for some extra sauce...and the guy said he'd have to charge me...I said...Ok....but I am comming from Newport Beach for these...he then said never mind....I also shared the fact that his place was the topic of an internet forum...which seemed to please him....

I also found out that they still make strips and cheese at Jax....
