SPAM N3WS

A Dutch spammer who used compromised PCs to spamvertise web sites has been fined €75,000 ($97,000) by Opta, the Netherlands telecoms regulator

The man - named only as Mr X - used 600-700 compromised PCs to send about nine billion spam messages promoting penis pills, pornographic websites and other assorted tat. X's 14-month junk mail campaign reportedly earned him an estimated € 40,000 before he was collared in November 2005.

Firms the junk mailer promoted included Badcow, Caesarbucks, Epiccash, Datinggold, Adultactioncash, Blackmarketmoney 8 and Latinamaricanfinancia, the International Herald Tribune reports.

Opta said Microsoft has assisted in its investigation. In mitigation, X argued that he had stopped spamming by the time he was arrested - not because he realised his activities were wrong, but because he "simply wasn't earning enough money". ®

P.T. Barnum once said(and I paraphrase).......
"Nobody ever went broke by underestimating
the inteligence of the American people"....
(did I get that right?)

this too must apply to people worldwide....
Who would click on spam?....how do these
people find motivations to keep on spamming?

How many people think they're gonna get a
free $1000 laptop.....or a giant penis?....
....mostly I dont think it's right to take advantage
of stupid people....but sometimes I think I'd
like their email address....I dunno

assuming that there are 6 billion people in the world...
that means that there is 9.6 million people in the world
who click on spam.....wow...that's why we have spam.

(somebody check the math?)

It might be 0.016. I need to check that.

Even if so 99.984 of people hate it and resent companies who do it so is still a loosing propoersition for reputable companies.

It is enough to keep it alive though.

It is the self same reason they spam as the Nigerian Gold coast Ivory coast 419ers. If only a piddling amount of 0.0001% "mugu" or mugs I guess respond to the offer to help Mrs. blah bank SIXTY FIVE MILLION US. DOLLARS in their accounts, (God send his blessings to you and your children) then the lads from Lagos reckon that's a result.

But this Dutch Schpammer (Note Dutch accent)

€ 40,000 is that a lot...? <clicketty>

$ 51,718. Well that ain't bad for being a 14 month bastard spam man from hell, I suppose. £25,000 approxish. But there are the overheads to consider...what are the overheads?

5pam 5pam wond3r4ul 5pam

Cheerio!

By coincidence the book I am reading for my advertising class states that for every 100,000 e-mail sent as spam will produce 2-5 qty of sales. It is not promoting spam but said sadly spam is more effective than banner advertising on the Internet by ratio. Obviously it also created a lot of bad will to the companies that do it.

So if you spammed 1 million people you could get 20-50 orders. How does that work out as a %. My maths sucks.

well..this is actually just arithmetic..how worthwile
is it to express such a # as a percent(which means
parts of a hundred)...not very ...but nonetheless here
we go...

what # will reduce the denominator of our fraction to 100?
...yes that is correct 10000...now divide zee numerator by
zee same amount...and you get .0005...which means that
if you had a sample of 100 spam victims...one guys little toe
would click on the spam....toes are stupid aren't they!!!
