Internet Radio

Post by obiwankobe »

If you turn to our Internet stream today, Tuesday, June 26th, you will hear something unusually different – silence. That’s because FM 94/9 and other Internet radio providers are taking part in a “Day of Silence” to protest higher royalty rates which are expected to go into effect on or after July 15th.

This royalty rate hike has been initiated by the record companies and is an exorbitant amount, which may make it not feasible for us to continue to provide you with the free service of an Internet stream. We are not suggesting that the record companies don’t deserve royalties for their music; however, we feel that a fair rate structure needs to be established.

If this rate hike goes into effect, it won’t just affect FM 94/9. It will affect all Internet radio stations and force many to cease operations. Ultimately this is bad for music consumers and artists alike as it will continue to diminish avenues of exposure for new music.

If you’d like to learn more about this issue and/or find out ways to help save the music, visit http://www.savenetradio.org.

As always, thanks for supporting us as we work to continue to provide you with the best station we can.
