Los Angeles is Burning
Bad Religion

Image

Somewhere high in the desert near a curtain of a blue
St. Anne's skirts are billowing
But down here in the city of the lime lights
The fans of santa ana are withering
And you can’t deny that living is easy
If you never look behind the scenery
It's showtime for dry climes
And bedlam is dreaming of rain

When the hills of los angeles are burning
Palm trees are candles in the murder wind
So many lives are on the breeze
Even the stars are ill at ease
And los angeles is burning

This is not a test
Of the emergency broadcast system
Where malibu fires and radio towers
Conspire to dance again
And I cannot believe the media Mecca
They're only trying to peddle reality,
Catch it on prime time, story at nine
The whole world is going insane

When the hills of los angeles are burning
Palm trees are candles in the murder wind
So many lives are on the breeze
Even the stars are ill at ease
And los angeles is burning

A placard reads
"the end of days"
Jacaranda boughs are bending in the haze

More a question than a curse
How could hell be any worse?

The flames are stunning
The cameras running
So take warning

When the hills of los angeles are burnin
Palm trees are candles in the murder wind
So many lives are on the breeze
Even the stars are ill at ease
And los angeles is burning

Ah, but on the contrary,

Pennywise - This is Only a Test

This is only a test of the emergency broadcast system
This is a product of hysterical mass confusion
A ship of fools adrift on the sea of our pollution
Rudderless and powerless on the sea of our delusion
And we're all alone hoping one day someone will save us from ourselves
Secretly knowing that as far as we can tell
The world has a hungry parasite thats called the human race
And we're powerless to stop it we're resigned to our own fate
And no one cares-and no one cares
This is only a test of the emergency broadcasr system
This is a result of our own reckless ambition
The castles we have built have all become our prisons
Trapped by our arrogance and the weight of our indifference

Just thought you'd like to know. After all you were quoting the kinder, gentler Bad Religion. I prefer the Bad Religion that doesn't get played on Star 98.7.

If I was listening to Star 98.7 all day, I'd say to myself, "Hey what the fuck am I doing listening ot Star 98.7? I'm not a huge wuss." And then I'd proceed to change the station, rather than just sit around all day and hope they play the newest (and mildest) Bad Religion track, so I could pretend to be cool and let all the other middlge-aged dads know how hip and cutting edge I was. But of course, that's just me.

Star 98.7 recently went through a format change, they are now a "Rock / Alternative" station.

Yeah, they rock a bit harder than before but they still play some of the VH1 pop crap. Still, no worse than turning to KROQ in the car this afternoon & hearing Puddle of Mud. I went back to Indie & listened to Jonesy babble for a few minutes, then back to KROQ in time to hear Social D - Story of My Life.

I read about that. I also read K-Big is trying to shy away from their disco-heavy playlist. All I know is, I was in the car flipping through stations and K-Big played Hey There Delilah. That was bizarre. I'm pretty sure that was followed up by a Rod Stewart ballad. Also, there's zero reception in my room so apparently my clock radio is tuned to KOST (I thought it was actually set to oldies) and I was awoken to the sounds of Gwen Stefani's latest single. Gwen Stefani. On the KOST! Isn't that Dick Clark's easy listening station? I thought the hardest music they played was like Richard Marx.

The same company owns both of those stations. They took the morning guy, Valentine from Star and put him on 104.3. I think 104.3's playlist is like what Star used to play

I agree. I just wish they could make a battery that lasts a little longer. That's actually why I was fumbling with the radio, 'cause the battery needed to be charged. But, I must admit, if I didn't have my Kevin and Bean fix in the morning I'd shoot someone.

I remember a time when you could wake up
in the morning(god it seems so far away now..)
and turn on the stereo and hear music.

Now every station has a team of nimrods
in the morning trying sell even more bullshit.

I miss them days.....

"Spirit of Radio"
Rush

Begin the day
With a friendly voice
A companion, unobtrusive
Plays that song thats so elusive
And the magic music makes your morning mood

Off on your way
Hit the open road
There is magic at your fingers
For the spirit ever lingers
Undemanding contact
In your happy solitude

Invisible airwaves
Crackle with life
Bright antennae bristle
With the energy
Emotional feedback
On a timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price ---
Almost free...

All this machinery
Making modern music
Can still be open-hearted
Not so coldly charted
Its really just a question
Of your honesty

One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity

For the words of the profits
Are written on the studio wall,
Concert hall ---
Echoes with the sounds...
Of salesmen.

Of salesmen

OF SALESMEN!!!!

Roadrunner

One two three four five six
Roadrunner roadrunner
Going faster miles an hour
Gonna ride by the Stop-n-Shop
With the radio on
I'm in love with the modern world
I'm in touch I'm a modern girl
New York City when it's late at night
I got the radio on
I'm like a roadrunner yeah

Said hello to the spirit of ol' 1956
It was pacing in the woods next to '57
Well the highway was my only friend
Cuz I went by so quick
Suburban trees were out there
And consequently it smelt like heaven
So I say roadrunner once roadrunner twice
I'm in love with the modern world
So let's go out all night aw

With the radio on got the FM
Radio on got the powerg got the magic
Radio on 50,000 watts of power
Radio on going faster miles an hour
Radio on I feel like a roadrunner Yeah

Can't ya hear it out in Jersey now
New York City when it's late at night
I'm on West Side Highway heading
Up to the G.W. Bridge down by the power lines
I see all the neon and it's cold at night
I got my radio on
It's so exciting here with the skyscrapers
In the dark
I feel in touch with the modern world
I feel in touch I feel alive
With 50,000 watts of power

I got the radio on
Roadrunner roadrunner
Radio on going faster miles an hour
Radio on ya know I walk by the Stop-n-Shop
Radio on and then I drove by the Stop-n-Shop
Radio on and I like that much better than
Walking by the Stop-n-Shop
Radio on I had the radio on

Radio on I felt in touch with the modern world
Radio on I fell in love with the modern world
Radio on I feel in love, feelin' love I got the
Radio on like the power, got the magic
Radio on got the AM
Radio on got the FM
Radio on 50,000 watts of power
Radio on going faster miles an hour

I always hear the radio (I have not tv)
Here in spain usually listen r.n.e. R-3, is the national broadcaster of music where there is no advertising, is a minority but it is good and we pay taxes, the rest is an authentic shit, but it is highly possible that I prefer a discussion of political garbage that a program the imbeciles on the radio ..

That's the point. If I'm home, I have lots of options with the internet & the cd player but in the car, I only have the AM/FM radio. I end up pushing buttons to find decent songs & avoid commercials & mindless chatter. When Indie is in music mode, I mostly stay tuned to it. I don't mind listening to Jonesy babble on when I'm working on the computer but when I'm driving, I want to hear more tunes than talk.

WOW! You need to update your stereo in the car! I don't listen to the radio unless I absolutely have to. I hate radio! Now the hubby, he listens to K-Whale here in Anchorage. It's not bad...lots of alternative! I don't think I've heard any real crappy shit on it yet, but, I don't listen to it, again, unless I have to. i.e. hubby is driving! LOL

As usual, I've got to agree with Robert 100%.

Josie, what do you listen to while you're in the car? I'm assuming your only other option is to bring in CDs. I did that for a while, but it's kind of a pain having to bring in new ones every few days and having to bring them back in the house when you're done. And then there's times when you really wanna hear a song, but you realise it's stuck in your car stereo. lol And I don't have an iPod connector, so the only way I could listen to my iPod in the car is with headphones and the cops aren't so thrilled abou that idea.

Any idea if K-Whale streams online? It'd be kind of interesting to hear what radio Alaska sounds like. K-Whale...lol. They sure love their blubber up there.

lol I like the picture. But that's kind of the beauty of the iPods. It's got every song you could possibly want, with none of the ones you dislike, regardless of what type of music you listen to. People have become their own DJs, mastering their own musical universe.

But, it seems like you're a purist and really want to stay true to the radio. Unfortunately, it sounds like you don't care for morning shows and let's be honest, the afternoons and evenings don't provide you with any better choices for music no matter which station you flip on.

What about satellite radio? Would that stick true to your idea of radio? Kind of a futuristic version of the old AM/FM radio. I've heard great things about the stations available there. I'm just not thrilled about paying for it. It's like I said, "I'll pay for my radio the day I start paying for my porn."

I've seen a lot of good radio stations come and go. Believe it or not, there was a day when KROQ was good. Before all the Metal-Rap and Emo crap. Today it's all about ratings, which is really all about money. Radio is corporate now and it isn't going to change. The barriers to entry are too high. I'll continue to push my KCRW because it is subscriber supported, if you like it send them money.

Yes, they do have a streaming audio! http://www.kwhl.com/

I use an iPod with an attachment that broadcasts the music through an unused radio station. I didn't pay much for it but it is quite worth it so I can hear MY music when I want to hear it. It just plugs into the cigarette lighter and not only broadcasts on my stereo but also charges my iPod! It's a double bonus.
