But wasn't Indie the first in the L.A. area?
RADIO AIRWAVES GO JACK
A new format is hitting radio hard: Jack-FM,
pioneered in 2000 by longtime Island Park, New York,
DJ Bob Perry, on-air alias CADILLAC JACK GARRETT.
Jack features wildly eclectic playlists selected
to appeal to the Everyman -- with artists ranging
from MARVIN GAYE and VAN HALEN to QUIET RIOT and
A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS -- and has been replacing
oldies stations coast to coast. While most stations
air the same 300 or 400 songs repeatedly, the
average Jack station rotates at least 1,200 --
almost entirely hits. "Radio has been dominated by one
train of thought for twenty years, and we broke
it," Mike Henry, CEO of Denver media consulting
firm Paragon Media Strategies, told Rolling Stone.
"There will still be classic-rock stations,
country stations, urban stations, but they're not
going to be as narrow as they once were."

I don't like Jack.... it seems like whenever I get into anyone's (over 30) car, the radio is always tuned to Jack FM.... it sux.... they play 1 good song inbetween 5 crappy ones, and the good ones for me are like the new wave, but even those are only the mainstream hits, which I'm pretty much sick of anyways and there's always Star98.7 for that (Nobody does New Wave like New Wave Nation)... and anyone who plays Bon Jovi is on the shit list, I'm sorry...
