Dude--
First of all, I can't believe you only JUST heard of the NY Dolls. :-0

But at least you have now. God bless Steve Jones (and INDIE) for introducing
people to all kinds of cool shit they've never heard before.

So, my question, Mr. Promotions, is where the heck is/are all our INDIE
bumper stickers, pins, T-shirts, computer background patterns/desktop pics,
avatars for AIM, ETC. which proclaim our love for INDIE? Is it not clear that we

cannot get enough of this station we love? At least bumper stickers. I need to
<sob> replace my Kerry/Edwards stickers with something.

Thanks babe. Seriously (I'm razzing you), you and INDIE are doing great work.
You've changed my life. I kid you not.
LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!

Oh my gosh! I just really can't get over how much incredible amazing music Indie plays! Just when I think I can predict their groove, they throw something else amazing on.

Roger Miller, for god's sake! (Love that song!) Incredible. Why isn't everyone in this world who cares about music listening yet?

I LOVE INDIE!!!!

This has been an incredible year for rock in general, and L.A. radio in particular.

Jonesy always plays the good stuff. I'm usually working while he's on so I don't get a chance to listen, except for my days off, but his show is definitely one of the best on radio today.

The last few years I've listened to more obscure stuff. My favorite songs of the year would MAYBE include one or two tracks that are played on normal Modern Rock radio, but everything else is stuff that most people have never heard of.

I started an internet radio show called In The Mix about 4 years ago and now, with Indie and other things like it (some channels on XM radio, which I also have), the songs that are being given exposure are the same as what I would normally play, which makes me extremely happy.

I'm going to make another post with a tracklisting of songs that I'm making for a Best of 2004 mix CD to give to people on my Christmas list, if anyone wants to discuss.

There are way too many songs that I enjoyed this year to narrow it down to one CD, but I've decided to start a new tradition in 2004 and send out Christmas cards that include a best of mix.. I'm the type of guy who, when I love a song, I want everyone to know about it.

I haven't ranked my top CD's yet but this is what I'm putting on my best of 2004 (a few of these are actually 2003, so don't shoot me)..

01. Reel Big Fish - Drunk Again
02. Tegan & Sara - You Wouldn't Like Me
03. Faithless - Mass Destruction
04. (The Real) Tuesday Weld - Bathtime In Clerkenwell
05. The Get Up Kids - Holy Roman
06. The Candy Butchers - Nice To Know You
07. Robbie Rist - Luvotomy
08. Loretta Lynn w/ Jack White - Portland, Oregon
09. Jamie Cullum - Twentysomething
10. The Argument - Act My Age
11. Eugene Edwards - All About You
12. Madrugada - Majesty
13. Lyrics Born - Hott Bizness
14. The Dollyrots - Goodnight, Tonight
15. Tim Reid - Love With You
16. Tears For Fears - Call Me Mellow
17. John Hoskinson - I Hope I Die Before You Do
18. The Rosenbergs - Weekend
19. Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict A Riot
20. Nellie McKay - Ding Dong
21. Steriogram - Walkie Talkie Man
22. The General Store - Girls From The Mall
23. The Vines - Rainfall

Rod Stewart. Why? Because I was composing my top ten list to send to Jonesy of
"Santa's Most Sorrowful Songs" and just as I wrote that song down damn if Steve
Jone didn't put it on the airwaves! It was AMAZINGLY COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For songs in rotation, I'd have to choose the Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Y-Control. It's got a really cool and unique sound, and of course Indie is the only station anywhere around here that plays it. For songs that have only been played on Jonesy's Jukebox, I'd have to say The Killers - The Ballad of Michael Valentine. This is my personal favorite by the Killers, even though it's only a b-side and didn't make the album - or maybe that's partially why it's so great.

Second, they play DEVO a lot.

You are right, they could use a bit more Paul Weller/Style Council/The Jam (although they do play them).

But come on now-- BLACK SABBATH? There are PLENTY of other stations for that crap.

I hate "Love You Cause I Have To". No one loves someone because they are forced to. Yuck.

But it's now gotten out of control with the Common People song. Every time it comes on, I'm in my car, the radio goes past full blast, and I'm bopping along in traffic, just totally losing it by that choir ending. I hope other drivers don't think I'm epileptic or something. (LA people are so reserved in their cars, you know.) Wink

Hey i had an idea for another indie evening show and i was wondering if i would be the only person into it.

I would really dig a Punk History show. Play some old punk you cant hear anywhere like the Germs, the Runaways, MC5, and really old Bowie.

The way i see it they could explain some of the stuff that was going on in Chicago, NY, LA and London and have some of the major contributors on before they die. (As a sheer sidenote: why is it that all of the Ramones are dying but the guys from Motely Crue are still alive and kicking. life is unfair)

I am 26 and missed out on most of the start of punk and am only catching up on it based on a few books out there. I would really dig hearing from some Ron Asheton or Ray Manzerick on there views of how it all evolved.

I know its sounds limited but there is tons of early (1975-1982) stuff out there that would be great to hear and hear about.

What do you guys think?

I like that David Bowie song that Jonsey plays, I believe it is a Japan import. I also like the off the wall stuff that in very english... I reminds me of benny hill...

I also like that William Shatner song.. I think it has a really cool vibe and it very down to earth. It really cool that a story still can be told in a song. I really see all the events of the song while I am listening...

Did Jonesy ever get anyone to put a play list up on the site. Or at least his top 20 favorite songs

I think indie should try and get Rodney Bingenheimer from the once
intersting radio station that he practically put on the map. I am
speaking ofcourse about KISS 106.7. Thats right the linkin park
station that has turned its back on its own heritage and now sticks
Rodney on at 2AM on Sundays I think. If you guys dont know who
Rodney is, he is a legend of the LA scene. He shopped Bowies demos
in LA for him before Bowie had an American, he was the first deejay
to play the pistols on the west coast, he brought the Damned over
from the UK in like 77 or 78 and let them crash at his pad until they
could get some gigs. I could go on and on. Check out the movie "The
Mayor of the Sunset Strip" after you see that movie you will see why
he should be on indie. KISS 106.7 out of Pasadena do not deserve
Rodney, Judd the Fish is an asshole. Kevin and Bean with their wacky
morning zoo crew antics should move to Redlands or Barstow. And
Indie has brought a new spirit and energy back to LA FM that has not
been araound in a long time.

Please Indie get Rodney out of that Hell.

Thanks for listening.

They've tried and as I mentioned on the other Indie board:

"I remember one of the Indie DJs approaching Rodney at Denny's in Hollywood a few months ago and no deal yet. I guess Rodney doesn't want to go to Indie yet till he's certain Indie will not flip to another type of station. The station 103.1 has not been a steady one since it has constantly flipped from MARS FM, Groove Radio, and so on."

As soon as we know that Indie is secured a permanent place on the radio waves, then there's a good chance Rodney would move. Until that happens, we can just keep on bugging Entravision to show there is an audience for Indie and plus keep on telling more people about this wonderful station. I also wish the signal was stronger.

I have been into British Mod and Punk since I heard the Buzzcocks. Indie has been playing some real good new British music:

Bloc Party
Kasabian

Thes two bands are pretty good. SO I just want to thank the hard working punks at indie for finding and playing any British punk, mod, or rock music. maybe one day the air waves will be filled with the Modfather.... Paul Weller.

BTW .. go buy "Quadrophenia". It should be watched at least once a year.

I am a student at the BIZ (Downtown Biz magnet) and would like to thank you guys for bringing Ozomatli to our school. Ozo rocked! Too bad most of the people at my school suck and don't like good music. Thanks for the shirt and the stickers too! My car will now be a roving billboard for the best radio station in L.A.
