Arcade Fire to Release Bowie Collaboration

Amy Phillips reports:
Children of Great Britain, rub the sleep out of your eyes! On Monday, November 14, Rough Trade will release "Wake Up", the fifth single from the Arcade Fire’s debut album, Funeral. In addition to a fancy schmancy etched one-sided 7", the song will also be available as an iTunes download-- but not just the version you know and love.

According to NME.com, iTunes will make the live recording of "Wake Up" by Arcade Fire and very special guest David Bowie (from that weird-ass "Fashion Rocks" thing that was on TV in September) available for exactly one week, with profits going to Katrina relief. After those seven days, well, the summer turns into dust.

It’s been a busy week for our Canadian friends. Last Wednesday, they were shut out of all five mtvU Woodie awards for which they received nominations. (Don’t cry, My Chemical Romance totally deserved to win.) Instead of dressing all in black and moping (oh wait...), Arcade Fire took their case to the people and played an impromptu acoustic gig on a New York City street late Saturday night.

According to NYC scenester blog Brooklyn Vegan, Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, and Will Butler set up outside a Union Square subway stop around two a.m. and ran through a set that included "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)" as well as Pixies, Cure, and New Order covers. Now you know why people pay $1000 a month to live in a closet in that city.

The band only has three more shows scheduled before they head back into their burrow to start work on their second album, and they’re all in Canada, all opening for U2, and all sold out. But here are the dates anyway:

11-25 Ottawa, Ontario - Corel Centre *
11-26 Montreal, Quebec - Bell Centre *
11-28 Montreal, Quebec - Bell Centre *

* with U2

For far less money and/or aggravation, Richard Reed Parry and Sarah Neufeld are still on tour with their experimental instrumental side project Bell Orchestre. Tinkle tinkle:

11-08 New Haven, CT - Firehouse 12 *
11-10 Montreal, Quebec - Theatre Plaza St-Hubert *
11-12 Burlington, VT - FlynnSpace at the Flynn Center *

11-11 Toronto, Ontario - The Music Gallery (2 shows) #
11-13 Sherbrooke, Quebec - Theatre Granada $
11-14 Quebec City, Quebec - Le Kashmir $

* with Clogs
# with Kepler
$ with Torngat
