Clean up the Camry's trunk a bit
So the Samsonite can fit in it
Frustrated
She sends an S.O.S text
A warning
Don't ever go through LAX.

Now she Ameritrades NWS on the NYSE.

the last line is short for
(newscorp on the New York Stock Exchange)

p.s I wrote this when I was in the mental hospital.

btw I repeat the same verse 2x but plan to change the 2nd verse to another.

Just though I'd get some feedback, see if anyone even likes it.

This is how I do it. You can start with a lot less expensive way but I have been building up a Presonus system for a while. You can get pretty good quality recoring but is still not the same as the big studio sound. Maybe one day.

I plug my guitar or mic into this digimax eight channel preamp. I use eight channels for so as to record up to eaight instruments at a time but you can start with one or two channels for a lot less expensive. This will allow a good live recording sound. I havent done it yet but I can also send this to ADAT which I might try in the future when I get some more money.

Image
http://www.presonus.com/digimax96k.html

I then shoot the channel to a compressor. I am currenty using a single channel compressor but my goal is to have this eight channel one.

Image
http://www.presonus.com/acp88.html

After compression I send to the firepod. I have a firebod that is firewire so this sound card can plug into my conputer. You can also plug your instruments straight into the firepod (I used to) but I have added the above units to get a better sound. There is also one called the firebox which is a great starter peice with only 2 channels.

Image
http://www.presonus.com/firepod.html

I have these on 1 17" rack mount.

The firepod is connected to my laptop via firewire so I can take it anywhere. You can also use a regular pc with less portability. I use 1 GB memory (you can get by with less for multitracking) & 2.9 GH CPU I cant remember.
Image

I have 2 recording softwares loaded on my computer. Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro & Cubase. I prefer the cakewalk becasue it is has an easier to use interface & more feartures. Probably they are similiar quality. It seems to be enough for now. Cakewalk Guitar pro is a 32 track recording studio so can record and playback 32 tracks at once. Once mixed can burn a song to CD or mix it to MP3.

Image

I also use a program called Sony Acid Loops to create loops of guitars/bass/vocals/drums etc. This is a great audio product for making yourself sound better than you really are. I use this alot for editing and then send back to cakewalk for mixing.

Image

There are so many products out there and I have not used them all but this is the system that I have put together and it seems to work great. I think it gets a good quality recording done but it is not as good as the full size studio gear. It is more that enough to create some great sounding demo's or indie releases.

I take the headphone output from a cheap ass 50watt amp
and plug to a cheap ass soundcard that uses some(I forget the name)
shareware multi-track software and it sounds like and is shit
I guess cause I got no pre-amplification, hence I dont do anything with it
....I'd like to learn more about this shit without dealing with the hit
or miss google results

the compressor is not neccesary (you can make a recording without it) but it basicly levels the signal for a certain type of instrumnet of vocals.

for example if you compress the guitars in a song that has quite strum and then punk rock loudness the compressor evens the volume so both the quiet part & loud strumming are recorded at the same level.

Otherwise the volume will sound like it has been turned up or down during different parts of the song.

Does that make sence?

Think of a song that the singer is quiet whisper talking and then screaming later, but you can hear the volume at the same level whether he is whispering of screaming.

I don't mind but I kinda learn as I go and certainly dont know everything. I do it 'my way" type system, probably not by the book.

I used to mess around with 4 tracks cassettes records when i was younger and when I played in The Fondled we actually went to a real studio so I can answer what I know.

If I was starting out I would look at something like this firebox. It is firewire, (so it acts as your soundcard) has 2 preamp channels, i.e sing and play guitar, or jam with a mate at the same time and comes with Cu base LE so you can get started making recordings.

the most popular Saturday night live sketch ever was when Aerosmith
visited waynes world and Tom Hanks played a roadie ...doing a sound
check he kept saying sibilence...sibilence....he was checking the
compression huh?

wikipedia says:
When recording vocals, a compressor can be used to reduce sibilance

Funny sibilence sibilence!....testes testes 1,2,3,(beavis n butthead0

Hey Glenn, I noticed that there were no Fondled songs out in Myspace. I had to search back through the Punk Rock Demo archives to find the show where Jack played "Cotton Candy" & "Wouldn't Want To Be Your Girl" for me (show #11). It's been 10 years since "Hey Hey..." was released. I guess there's no chance of an anniversary tour  In the meantime,

You can try m-audio, or go to Guitar Center and ask for some low cost solutions.

Cool!...I was checking out the fasttrack model there for $129.00
it comes with a professional endoresment:
Image

Rudy Sarzo (bass player; DIO, Ozzy Osbourne) says...
"The portability and quality of the Fast Track USB make it the perfect
recording tool for the traveling musician."

...why would a bass player lie?... :D

Now something like that could take output from a distortion pedal and
input into a pc....Right?

yip

plug guitar to disortion pedal & then distortion pedal to m-audio and then m-audio to pc via usb.

Problem with USB is a bit slow. It might be o.k with one track at a time.

Firewire is better if you can afford it.

what?...with usb being slow...would that mean there would be
like "buffer gaps"(?)in the recording?...that wouldn't do!

And...with above setup with cakewalk...i'd saybe able to record
one track at a time but still be able to edit everything later...right?

yip - the biggest problem with digital recording is called latency - it is when the data is recorded slower than the imput and the timinng goes out/buffering etc - can be very buggy and frustrating.

Main problems, hard drive writing speed. Check your hard drive needs to be 7600? rpm or faster. Also more memory and faster CPU help, but the harddrive writing speed is most important.

The speed that your soundcard carries the signal is also important so USB might be o.k for 1 track at a time. (Well they make it dont they)

If you are using a pc there are sound cards that you can plug into the motherboard also. I dont know anything about that. You would still need a preamp though but could get one at guitar center for $50-$100 that you can plug into the soundcard.

It depends on what you plan to do with the recordings and what are your expectations for the quality etc. You will get what you pay for.

Has it really been 10 years. Just makes me feel so older.

I personally would be into it but it would be dificult becasue the band members are living some out of state & Harley lives in germany (or so I understand)

So I doubt it. Would be a cool idea though.
