Matt Pond PA opening for Liz Phair

Matt Pond PA to Release New Album, Tour

Kati Llewellyn reports:
Matt Pond PA is a tease. First of all, it's a band, not one dude (though singer/songwriter Matt Pond does front the quartet). Then there's the "PA" thing. It stands for Pennsylvania, but they don't even live in Philly anymore. They moved to Brooklyn two years ago. Posers! But I guess "Matt Pond NY" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Tonight, Pond and co. begin their fall tour in Florida, home to intensely un-autumn-like conditions. They will be playing with new cellist Dana Feder, who replaced longtime cellist Eve Miller after her departure in July. This two-month shindig is in support of the band's new album, Several Arrows Later, due out on October 11 via Altitude Records. Here's hoping the first few arrows weren't aimed at the writer responsible for letting some green fury loose on their last release! Shit, son.

The band opens for fellow Pitchfork punching bag Liz Phair until late October and then switches over to Guster, who we actually kind of like. After that, they'll head to the UK (yet another abbreviation for a location), before bringing it all back home in January 2006. Lucky Columbia, MO gets to hear them play "Halloween" ON Halloween.

Several Arrows Later tracklist:

01 Halloween
02 So Much Trouble
03 Trees and the Wild
04 Several Arrows Later
05 It Is Safe
06 Emblems
07 City Song
08 From Debris
09 Brooklyn Stars
10 Moviegoer
11 Spring Provides
12 Devil in the Water
13 Halloween [Live]

Maybe you're thinking "Hmmm... Matt Pond PA, where have I heard that name before?" Let us refresh your memory. Their cover of Oasis' "Champagne Supernova" played in the background on "The O.C." during the Seth/Summer Spiderman rain kiss last season, and was featured on Music From The O.C.: Mix 4. Another MPPA cover, this time of Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" closed an "O.C." episode two weeks ago. No, that last one wasn't recorded specifically for "The O.C." It originally appeared on January's Winter Songs EP, so there.
