Merge offers free digital download of The Clientele album to vinyl buyers

This is absolutely amazing news. I would definitely buy more vinyl and music in general if I were also given a digital copy. Hopefully, other record companies will follow suit.

The mad scientists at Merge corporate record headquarters in Durham, North Carolina, have cooked up a devilish plot to change the music industry as we know it!

Well, actually, they've just come up with a digital angle on that old standby, the LP. But it's a great angle.

Let's face it, vinyl is very cool, but it's hardly portable. For those vinyl consumers who spend their days away from their turntables, tethered to computers and iPods, longing to listen to music then, too, Merge hears your pain...

Vinyl purists who pick up a copy of The Clientele's newest LP, Strange Geometry, will receive a CD insert inside the LP with a coupon entitling the bearer to a free one-time download of the full album, in digital mp3 format, from the cavernous electronic vaults of Merge Inc.

Spott, Merge General Manager, puts it this way: "We want the tactile pleasure, the 12" album art, the physical satisfaction of vinyl AND the convenience of digital music. Let there be a promotion."

We know there are those of you who are holding off buying vinyl, not sure how to get it onto your portable devices. This is the promotion for you.

I think that the mp3's should be availble for free download when you buy the vinyl with a password etc rather than on a cd.

Reasons =

Costs less than manufacturing the cd.
Also becasue the vinyl can warp with cd insertion and can create a seperate packaging issue _ shipping more expensive etc,
When I-tunes account expires the portibility expires, unless purchased seperately.
Better for everyone.

Buy the vinyl and get the downloads free (assiming you have i-tunes acct) or
Buy the mp3's itunes (premanent) and get the vinyl free.
Costs the same to consumer either way.

Art creitis sell records/art

= more opportunity for review exposure etc.

I use my 7" as a coaster so I dont spill beer on the table. It is also good for hot plates etc. Not too hot though, or it will warp.

Because it is clear vinyl I use it to look at stuff too.

On sunny days you can use it to light a camp fire.

I just got this. The selection out there sucks. Would be cool if someone where to offer 6-12 models from $29-$99 retail price range that fit into any aux plug in stereo. For home consumer use. Frys had only 2 models 1 at $99 and 1 at $199.99

A few weeks ago I got one from Guitar Center, was a d.j model but too much assembly and needed a special phono input. Dosent work with a regular aux jack and no built in preamp. Wasted money for the average consumer.

Anyone looking for a cheap Stanton d.j vinyl player??? Add to your d.j equipment. I paid $150.00 all up.
